About Us

From 1996 to 2020, Scott Haines lived and worked on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  After a career in the Air Force and obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Scott established Bridges Street Pottery in Morehead City. Bridges Street Pottery was a studio and gallery where Scott not only showed his work, but the work of his students as well. Scott taught pottery at Carteret Community College, and advanced classes and workshops at his studio.  Through the years, Scott taught and launched many successful potters that are now located across the country.

In March of 2014, Scott  and  Donna  got together and a beautiful collaboration was born.  Scott throws the graceful, elegant, gravity defying pieces, and Donna is the one who glazes the pots with varied, often intricate, designs. While her first love is painting, Donna uses her talents to further beautify Scott’s creations. Along with tall vases, this couple creates many functional stoneware pieces including large platters, sinks, bowls, and mugs.

Scott and Donna moved to Asheville in November 2020.  Scott had long dreamed of living in the mountains and Donna was a former resident of Asheville. Now settled into their home in West Asheville, they are in the process of establishing their new studio, Three Trees Pottery.

Scott also specializes in raku and other alternative firing techniques. He really enjoys having the public come and participate in raku firings at the studio. A favorite event at Three Trees Pottery is hosting raku parties.

As a middle school student, Scott was inspired to try pottery by a potter demonstrating on a boardwalk. He never forgot how a few words from this man shaped his life and career. Thus, he takes every opportunity to instruct, inspire, and educate everyone he can about ceramic arts, and to encourage community involvement and support of art in any form.  Scott and Donna are excited to be living in an area with a thriving arts community and look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of the arts in Asheville.
